Day 10 - October 9, 2008

Well, today wasn't a good day.

When they went in to the wound area on her right leg, they found infection and pus. So, instead of repairing the tibia, all they could do was clean the wound and replace the suction bandage. They did check the left leg (and recleaned it), and there appeared to be no infection. They will probably do surgery again on Saturday to clean the wound in the right leg. It may take several more surgeries to clean the wound, until there are no additional signs of infection. They were planning to remove the chest tube (not the ventilator) when she returned from surgery. We haven't been with her since surgery, so we can't confirm whether or not it has been removed.

We don't know at this point whether they are still planning to take her off the ventilator tomorrow.

Prayer emphasis: Elimination of infection, strength for us, strength and peace for Mom (it is difficult for us to really tell how she's doing emotionally / mentally).

On a more positive note, for those of you who know what has been going on in my personal life, my husband did receive a job offer today, and has another interview tomorrow. Praise the Lord!

Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support.

We just had a few visitors today:

Joanie Quiring (and one of the twins, but we really don't know if it was Chad or Ryan)
Bobby Elliott

Calls from:

Maryanne Miller
Kendall Johnson (the Highway Patrol officer on the scene)

I'm so sorry! I can just imagine the disappointment your feeling. She still has her legs and the infection has been caught soon. This is still going forward, just a little step back. Keep positive. I'm praying around the clock here.
Congrats to your husband! I will pray that this is the job for him!
Thank you Alana for keeping us posted. We do care about you, your mom and family!

Lord,
Plese work to eliminate the infection in that leg to allow them to do the much needed repairs. You are good God and we thank you for showing your goodness to this family. Continue to work and provide peace and help Patty to breath and feel your peace. Your name be praised. Amen

Disappointment, sadness, temptation to doubt, were the first thoughts. Then the gentle reminder: the verse I saw every time I substituted in Patty's classroom, "I know the plans I have for you ," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you , plans to give you hope and a future." My devotions today: Psalm 27:13,14 "I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." Praying for you often. Excited for Ted! Praying for him today too.

Just wanted to share what the Lord has been speaking to me: "Choose faith!"
It seems in my life, it is very easy to walk in fear, fear for the well-being of people I love, fear about the economy, fear about the election, etc. etc. And faith on the other hand is a struggle because it doesn't come naturally. I allow all the what-ifs to haunt me. When I do that, I literally cannot function. That is when (if I listen) I hear His voice say, "Choose faith!" Not faith in my ability to control things or people, but faith in Him; and He is Love. He doesn't just love, He is Love. Scripture says, "Perfect Love casts out fear." I can trust because He is love. When I remember Who He is, fear leaves.
Hebrews 11:6 says, "Without faith it is impossible to please Him, those who come to Him must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him."
As all of us are diligently praying and joining our faith together, I expect God to do exceeding abundantly more than we can ask or think for Patty, Aaron, Paul, and their families. And for Eric's family.
I love you guys, if there is anything we can do, please ask.
