Day 2 - October 1, 2008

Wednesday was fairly quiet. She was heavily sedated all day, so pretty much like last night. Her color is definitely improving, and a lot of the swelling on her face has gone down. She was taken off her blood pressure medicine for at least a part of the day.

I don't think I gave the prognosis yesterday - the doctor is telling us 3-5 months before she walks (but we don't know if this means taking a step, walking with a walker, or able to move on her own) and 12-18 months for "full recovery." This is all, of course, still assuming no amputation is necessary. The left foot will be the most difficult for recovery. Long term, she will probably have extensive pain even after she is "fully recovered."

Looks like surgery will be tomorrow to go back in and clean out the wounds and tighten the screws and pins.

I spent most of the day back out in the Suburban and at the accident site. I'll get some pictures up later. The most striking thing for me is that Mom shouldn't be alive, much less still have both of her legs.

My daughter was suppose to be in the vehicle but we were running late. We came upon the wreck just right after it happen. I ran over to one of the students and asked him some questions then I ran down to your mom. She reached out to me and I grabbed her hand. She then asked me, "Where is Leah?" I told her she was with me and she was ok. She then told me that her legs were hurting. I laid my hands on her and began to pray. I prayed and I began to cry cause had I noticed the passenger seat door was gone. That is where Leah would have been sitting. I quickly snapped out of it and saw the boys laying on the ground. I went over to them and began talking to them. After I talked to them, two other ladies showed up and covered them up with blankets. All I could do was tell all of them to be still till help came. I went to each of them and pray. I kept going back to each of them to check on them. Finally the ETM showed up. After the EMT arrived I stepped out of the way and let them do their jobs. I'm praying for your family and the boys. Thank you for making this blog.

Dearest Patty,

We are holding you close in our hearts and keeping you at the foot of God's throne without waiver.

JT has people praying in Omaha, NE.

Our kids in Eureka, KS. also are praying.

In God's wonder,
Joy Seemann

I also want to say thanks for making this update. It is frustrating not to be able to help, but tell your mom, and I'm sure she knows, that we are praying. Every hour of class--when we open in prayer--a student prays for those injured in the accident and for the family of the boy who was killed. We are trusting God for a rapid recovery. Love you.

Thank you for keeping us posted. We have spend so much of our days and, yes, nights keeping you guys lifted up in prayer! The enemy seeks to destroy but our God's plan is to give us a future and a hope.

Thanks Alana for posting updates. Your mom would be so proud of you guys for being strong, keeping your wits and letting others show that they care. I'm proud of you too! We are praying here for your mom, you and all of the others that are affected by this.
