Day 7 - October 6, 2008

We're out of surgery!

The ortho doc came to see us. His words: "She's doing fantastic." They were able to fix the left tibia the way they wanted to. She now has a "nail" in her tibia, but they were able get her leg lined up as it is supposed to be! So, we've had another major victory.

He tells us they are planning to work on the right tibia on Wednesday or Thursday. The left foot has some skin on top that is a big concern right now. The skin is severely damaged and may or may not survive. The doc tells us that it's a "big loss" if that skin dies. It's very difficult to repair the skin on the foot because it doesn't take to skin grafts well. So, that leads to our latest specific prayer request. Let me be clear, infection is still a specific prayer need and likely will be for at least 6 weeks. However, this patch of skin on her left foot seems to be incredibly important to saving that left foot, so, please include this on your specific prayer request. We need the skin on that foot to survive and heal properly!

It may be weeks before they are able to work on her left foot. Additionally, they are going to require some plastic surgery on her legs, but that won't be for a couple more weeks probably.

So, another successful day. Her lungs did great through surgery, and she's back in her room resting now. We'll see what tomorrow holds.

Thanks for those who came today, it means a lot to all of us!

We were all very happy to learn of this blog today...we just didn't know how to best contact you. Now we can follow Patty's amazing recovery. You know we are here for you. Remember the connection between systemic infection and lack of oral hygiene (sorry, I just can't get out of the dentist persona). As soon as you can, spend some time with gentle brushing and flossing to eliminate the possible bacteremia from the nasties in the plaque. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Praise the Lord for his unfailing goodness! So glad the surgery went well. Praying about the skin on her foot. A special verse from Psalm 4:8 (for me)"I will lie down in peace and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe." That is my prayer for you all tonight. Donita

Yea!!! Emmanda told me this earlier...another day forward. We will be sure and specifically mention the skin, infection and all, in our prayers. Thanks again for these great updates!

Here's a scripture for you: "For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken" (Prov 3:26).
