Day 11 - October 10, 2008 Part 2

I just slipped out of Mom's room to leave you a quick post.

It has been a GREAT day. The infection is not "systemic." That means it isn't in her blood flow - that's a piece of fantastic news. It's localized, and at present, doesn't seem to be spreading. Again, GREAT news.

Mom has been herself most of today. It's HER talking to me, not the drugs she's taking. Her personality is really coming through. They told us that they are hopefully they'll be able to take her off the ventilator tomorrow, but they'll just see how she's doing. So far today, her breathing and oxygen levels have been great. They said they'll let her eat after taking the vent off, too. So I asked if that meant she could have a Dr. Pepper. They said "Absolutely." As soon as I told her that, I got a huge smile, she raised her shoulders as if she was saying "Yippee!!" It was the best thing I've seen from her in almost 2 weeks. The Dr. Pepper was mentioned again a bit later, and she raised a clenched fist in excitement. It's been a good day so far.

She's resting at the moment, but I just wanted to let everyone know that today has been good. I still don't know what time they're planning to do surgery tomorrow, so we're still playing it by ear on that one.

More later!!

Lol...A Dr. Pepper mom instead of a druggie mom, lol. I'm glad they caught that infection quick! Another day forward! I'm looking forward to reading, in a day or two, that she drank a Dr. pepper.
Praying non stop here.

I guess a good Dr Pepper cures a lot of things! We've been praying lots here, too, and are so glad there is good news today! Patty, we've baked schnetka, and more schnetka, and pumpkin cookies, and I think we are ready for the festival tomorrow! Rachelle has done a GREAT job of organizing everything, and I agree with LeAnn, it just won't be as much fun without you! But we are determined to do you proud! We'll update you tomorrow and let you know how it went.

After stopping by the Schimmer room and speaking with Alana, I drove to 6th & Shartel to see if I would be welcome by Paul's and Aaron's mothers. They were all so glad to see someone of the CBA family. Since they have been moved, they are out of the loop, so to speak. Paul and Aaron had seen each other during therapy today, and that was good. We all gathered around Kenny and prayed in chapel today after he gave us an update and answered questions for the students. They were unusually focused and listened intensely to every word. It means a lot to all of us to know that she is getting better. May God give you all a restful night.

...and I've been thinking, "What would be a good gift to take to Mrs. Schimmer? I know, a Dr. Pepper." Glad to hear it still sounds appealing to her.
