Day 13 - October 12, 2008

I'm so sorry it has gotten so late before I got a post up today. She's having another pretty good day. She's talking more, more of her personality coming out, and seeming to be even more clear headed. She wears out very quickly, but seems to sleeping pretty well when she does get to sleep.

We've had a fair amount of visitors today, so that's been very nice. Mom was very happy to hear how the Pumpkin Festival went, but sad to hear about the football loss last week.

We do have a little news on the ICU front. They're working on getting her blood sugar under control. She's not diabetic, but when your body undergoes trauma (and the body reacts to surgery just like trauma), the adrenalin the body produces turns to sugar. Between that and the tube feedings, her blood sugar has been high. She's presently on an insulin drip. They'll keep her in ICU until that blood sugar level is a little more controlled. The plan is to give her a slow-release insulin shot tomorrow, and if the blood sugar is ok, they'll try to move her to her own room (Yippee!!) either tomorrow or Tuesday. One of the docs told us she'll "probably definitely" be able to have a Dr. Pepper tomorrow. She's eating as much ice as they'll let her have right now, but I can't find a way to sneak her a drink of Dr. Pepper!

So, the prayer for tonight is to get her blood sugar under control so she can move to her own room.

That's the news for now. Plan is still for surgery tomorrow to clean out the wounds again. If there is no infection, we expect them to attempt to repair the right tibia either Wednesday or Thursday. For those of you trying to keep track, she's had 6 surgeries so far...

More as I have new information!!

You don't owe anyone an apology! We Thank you for taking time to post.
6 surgeries in less than 2 weeks, WOW! We will include the control of the blood sugar level in our prayers. A good day is a forward day!

Hi Patty, Ted and I have been keeping up on your progress with Ted, Jr. We are so happy that you are doing so well! My brother has had two similar experiences in his career as a police officer when he was injured on the job, once in a high speed chase and once in a fall. I know that his positive attitude and his need to be active contributed greatly to his recovery both times. Although, I don't know you as well as I would like to, I have been around you enough to know that you are one of the most positive people I know. And I can't imagine you sitting still for long once you get a chance to move. So I think you have a natural advantage in your recovery. It is also apparent that you have a wonderful, loving group of friends and family to support you. Alana has done a great job keeping everyone informed on this blog, and I want everyone in your family to know how much Ted & I admire all their courage and grace in handling this crisis. Love and prayers. Kathy & Ted

So, so glad to hear she is doing well. We continue to pray that for peace, no infection and that they will be able to do the repairs on that leg that need to be done. We plan to come by tomorrow. Maybe she will be in a room! That would be great!
