Day 5 - October 4, 2008 - Part 2

Wow! Lots of visitors today! I'll get the list updated later tonight. For now, I wanted to make sure I got an update out.

We've spoken with the trauma doctor. She tells us "She's exactly where I would expect her to be given her injuries." They have reduced the concentration of oxygen they are giving her (down to 40% versus normal air of about 20%), and she's responding well. They have begun giving her medicine to reduce the fluid retention, and she seems to be responding well to that, as well. They've turned down her pain medication (they're trying to get her awake enough to respond upon demand), but she still doesn't seem to be in pain.

Really not much new news, but there are some positive aspects, so I wanted to be sure I passed it along.

Someone has asked about infection - how long is she susceptible, what's the highest risk time, etc. The doc told us last night that he'll worry about infection for 2 months, and the nurse has told us the risk is pretty much the same throughout that entire process since there are so many sources of possible infection.

Her toes on that left foot have good color today, are warm, and are doing well. Those little things are encouraging to me, so I'll pass them along, as well. She's not awake enough to respond (wiggle toes, squeeze her hand, etc.), but she's still able to open her eyes if we try to get her to.

Enough for now - Keep up the kind comments for Mom!!

Patty,
You are on my mind as I go rushing through-out the day, and I frequently stop whatever I'm involved in to pray for God's life and breath and presence in that hospital ICU. You are His own, in His hands, and He will not abandon you. Know this. Many people are praying for you and for your family.
Lots of love.

My mom & I are in Branson for a few days, and I wanted to share a neat story with you. I'd purchased a gift for Patty, and told the lady who checked me out who the gift was for and why. She told me that she was hit by a drunk driver a number of years ago, and was told she would never walk again, but yet, she is walking today! Her name is Viola, and she told me to tell Patty never to give up, to hang on to her faith, that God will do great things, and that in Branson, MO, someone who has been in a similar situation will be praying for her. God certainly has wonderful ways of sending encouragement. Pam Harms

Hello, my name is Sherrie Spradlin and i live in Cordell and am friends with Diane Glennie....Many, many people in cordell are praying for your mom and the boys and their families. I don't really know what to say except that my heart sincerely goes out to you.. I know your mom and the boys will have great testimonies to share as to how the Lord heals them. I truly believe he will work miracles through them. I also pray for strength for your family thru this trying time...i know from experience how draining hospitals and worry can be. I know your love and faith will get you thru. I lift you and your mom and the boys up several times a day to our Savior in prayer. thank you for the blog...altho we do not know one another personally, many care deeply about the healing of your mom. Once again, you are all in my prayers and May God Bless you.

Hi, this is Laurie Robertson and I'm writing this on behalf of my mom, Shirley Hartman (Patty Joe's aunt). Mom has been in the hospital since Sept 3rd and hasn't been able to respond to any of this but it is breaking her heart that she isn't there with you all. She thinks of Patty Joe as a daughter and has been praying for her every day. We update her as we read the blogs everyday, so thank-you for those ! Our whole family is praying for your family and we will see you as soon as mom is able to travel. We love you all, Laurie

This sounds like another day forward.
Brock came home for the weekend from college and said, "Mom I just seen that lady at Emmanda's birthday party a few weeks ago. She is a nice lady". You are always in our prayers.

Leah(CBA 9th grader) came by to see Patty and the boys yesterday. Jared (CBA 10th grader) is planning on coming up this afternoon. Leah was so hurt to see them "hurting". Although it is good to hear that Patty is not in a lot of pain right now.
Thank you so much for this blog! Our nephew Nick Boese, one of Mrs. Schimmer's former students, called, concerned about her. I was thankful I could tell him about this blog so he could keep up to date on her condition.
We are all praying for Patty and for miracles. God is so powerful and I can see Him working through Patty marvelously. He knows she won't keep His glorious work to herself!
We are so glad we can pray more specifically now, by knowing exactly what is going on! THANK YOU again! We are praying for God's strength for you all(her family)also, as well as His glorious healing for Mrs. Schimmer, Aaron, and Paul.
God Bless.
Robert,Julie,Jared,Leah,Michael,
and Spencer Boese

We continue to pray. Just a reminder to all that the "little things" count. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Mrs. Schimmer and family,
You and you family are in my thoughts and prayers. I know we serve an Amazing God who is a Healer and a Wonderful Shepherd that watches over His sheep. I thank God for the healing that has already taken place and pray that the healing process will continue in a great and mighty way.
I found a verse that I like and I thought you might like it as well.

I find rest in God; only He gives me hope. he is my rock and my salvation. He is my defender; I will not be defeated. Psalm 62:5-6

With love and prayers,
Farren Evetts
