Day 19 - October 18, 2008

Sorry this post is so late in the day!

Today has been a good day. Mom's feeling pretty well today. I'm going to credit the Ted's fajitas I brought her for dinner last night! :-)

Going to be a very busy week next week. We found out last night that her spinal injury will require surgery. We haven't gotten to speak with the attending, so we're not entirely clear on what they will be doing to repair it. However, they feel as though the risks of leaving it as is as much higher than the risks of repairing it. They plan to do that surgery on Tuesday.

So, for those of you keeping track, the plastic surgery to repair her right leg on Monday will be surgery #9, spinal surgery on Tuesday is surgery #10, and if they are unable to do the plastic surgery on her left leg on Monday, that will be Wednesday, and will be surgery #11.

So, the specific prayer request we have for Monday is that they are able to use existing muscle tissue in her right leg to repair the damaged muscle. The risks with the alternatives are much higher than using what is there. However, they won't know until they get into surgery on Monday what method will work best.

That's all for now! More later if anything develops!

Alana, in an earlier post, you encouraged people to donate blood. Is there any way for your mom's friends' and families' donations to benefit her directly? I have read about directed donation, but I was also wondering if she could receive credit when people donate in her honor.

Sounds like she's eating good. I will include the muscle tissue in my prayers.
